North by Northwest Investigations are holding a number of Surveillance courses. Details of each courses are listed below along with the relevant downloads for further course details.

Basic Surveillance Awareness Course

Duration 1 day

Training Description

The candidate will attend a day’s training room event. During the day there will be plenary sessions providing opportunities to explore topics including surveillance planning and preparation, surveillance deployment, record and photographic issues and take part in a small surveillance footwork exercise. The course is aimed at those who would like an insight into surveillance and appointed persons in the workplace.

Certified Surveillance Development Course

Duration 5 days

Training Description

The candidate will attend 5 days training comprising of two days training room development , covering issues and principles relating to preparation and planning, observation posts, surveillance records(including training room exercise) and basic photography(including exercise).

This will be followed by day training and operating as a surveillance foot operative and day training for vehicular or mobile surveillance.

The final day will include an exercise where candidates will carry out a surveillance for a number of hours followed by a debrief and course critique. This course is aimed at Private Investigators, public sector workers and individuals who would like to increase their knowledge in Surveillance Techniques.

Certified Motorcycle Surveillance Development Course

Pre Course Assessment

Duration 4 hours

Aims

To allow the candidate to demonstrate that they are a sufficiently proficient motorcyclist prior to completing the Certified Motorcycle Development Course.

Objectives

By the end of the course the candidate will be able to   ;

  • Demonstrate that they are suitable to complete the Certified Motorcycle Development Course .
  • Demonstrate that they are safe whilst riding a motorcycle in Urban, Rural and motorway environments.

Assessment

The candidate will be continually assessed by a qualified advanced motorcyclist (Qualified Police Advanced Motorcyclist( Retired)).

Feedback and developmental safety tips will be provided during the process.

Certified Motorcycle Surveillance Development Course

Duration 3 days

Training Description

The candidate should have successfully completed an assessment prior to attending this package.

The candidate will receive 2 days one to one training and development with a trainer covering safety issues and introducing surveillance techniques ranging from position and use of cover through to navigational issues and working within a team.

The final day will allow the candidate to work as part of team, with other vehicles, in a range of urban and rural environments.

Surveillance Photography

Duration 4 hours

Training Description

The candidate will attend a half days training where they will receive basic photographic instruction including the use of manual focus. During the session they will take photographs and review the same within a training room environment.

Surveillance Record Keeping Course (Log Keeping)

Duration 4 hours

Training Description

The candidate will attend a half days training in a training room. They will be in plenary and have the opportunity to develop knowledge of systems combined with an audio exercise and the opportunity to complete a surveillance record.

About Our Lead Trainer - Duncan Batty

Duncan is a highly experienced surveillance operative with 30 years criminal investigation experience.

He has operated with Police Forces and Regional/National Crime Squads across the United Kingdom and has a wealth of experience in training operatives on a regional national and international basis.

His skills and disciplines include

  • Mobile conventional surveillance (Cars and foot)
  • Foot and Public Transport
  • Surveillance Motorcycle
  • Electronic Surveillance Techniques (Vehicle/Product tracking)
  • Kidnap Surveillance
  • Recording and presentation of evidence (Surveillance Log Keeping)
  • Photographic

Duncan has been training surveillance operatives since 1991. He has completed the following training related courses

  • National Surveillance Trainer
  • National Police Trainer Development program (NVQ Level 3 Equivalent)
  • City and Guilds 7307 Adult Training Certificate
  • NVQ A1 Assessor Qualification

He continues to train operatives by using competence related methods and has great experience of designing and delivering bespoke training packages to suit the needs of the client.

Duncan views safety of the operative and public as his greatest priority closely followed by the retrieval and presentation of quality evidential product.

We are also able to deliver courses for individual groups who would like to learn more about surveillance awareness.
