Fraudulent insurance claims have steadily increased over the past 10 years. Insurance fraud is now a multi million pound industry, the proceeds of this type of criminal behaviour is helping finance other serious criminal acts allowing criminal enterprises to grow and prosper. Fraudulent or exaggerated claims arising from personal injury accidents and staged road traffic collisions cost the insurance industry millions of pounds every year and it is the policy holders that end up paying for it with increased insurance premiums.

If you suspect that the circumstances leading up to the collision is suspicious, firstly, inform your insurance company or if you are still uncertain and would like further advice contact North by Northwest Investigations.

2.    Be aware of other vehicles acting suspiciously in around you.

3.    When parked behind a vehicle at junctions or queuing traffic keep a third of a cars length between you and vehicle in front.

4.    At junctions / roundabouts, observe the vehicle in front pull away, don’t assume it has!

5.    Be wary of vehicles full of passengers

6.    Buy a disposable camera and a small note pad and leave it in your glove compartment.

In the event of any collision suspicious or not please follow this advice;

1.    Take note the number of passengers in the Third Parties vehicle

2.    Take photographs of the damage to the Third Parties vehicle using your disposable camera or mobile phone

3.    Write down as much information of what happened while it is still fresh in your mind.

4.    Give the Third Party driver your Name, Vehicle details including Registration number and your insurance company details if you know the insurance details.

5.    NEVER give the third party your personal details e.g. Personal phone numbers including mobile, home address or works address. The Third Party do not need to know these details and you could risk of having the Third Party hounding you for a cash settlement rather than going through the insurance companies.
